What to Keep in Your Car for Winter

As winter begins you should make sure that you never leave home in your vehicle without ensuring that you are fully prepared.

Before you leave make sure that you check the weather forecast and if it looks bad then stay at home unless it is really important that you make that journey.

Not only should you ensure that the car is mechanically prepared for winter, but also you need to have a winter weather kit in your trunk. Firstly you will need a shovel, in case you ever get stuck in the snow, and make sure you have water and snacks in case you are snowed in, in your car, and a thermos of hot soup. Should you be travelling with a pet, have a little bowl for them so that they can eat and drink as well.

Whilst you are stocking the trunk, take the time to check on the spare tire and the jack, and make sure that the first aid kit is properly stocked. You should have a blanket and a flashlight with spare batteries and think about having jumper cables as many batteries run down when people leave their heat running when stuck in the snow.

Finally,  you need a windshield scraper and the all important cell phone. Making sure you are prepared will make it much easier if ever you are stranded because of winter weather.

Survey says Nevada Drivers are Rude

Insure.com commissioned a survey of 2,000 licensed drivers in July 2014 to discover which state had the rudest drivers, those who would weave in and out of traffic, sound the horn most often and be the most aggressive.

The respondents were situated around the country and the analysis was carried out using a ratio of the number of drivers in the state divided by the number of respondents.

The state which came out top of the poll was Idaho, with Nevada coming in at ninth place. Nevada drivers were seen as worse than inconsiderate, they were thought to be dangerous.  One respondent said that it was not a question of if you would be in an accident; it was a question of when. Another said that whenever there was a stop light, or a left turn signal, at least two or three cars would go through the red light. In addition on the freeway, there were always drivers darting in and out of the traffic, just to get one more space ahead.

What to do if a Dog Bites you

Dogs are man’s best friend but there are occasions when they will bite, even if they are a household pet. So what should you do if a dog bites you or a child?

In the case of a child you should take them immediately to a doctor, even if there is no actual wound or puncturing of the skin. The doctor will check for underlying tissue damage, tendon damage, nerve damage or bone damage.

If the wound is open and bleeding, you should stop the bleeding by putting pressure on the wound using gauze or a clean pad and then go to the doctor.

The doctor will want to know what type of animal it was, any distinctive markings or colorings and the breed if you know it.

Finally if the dog was wild, or an animal you didn’t know, the doctor will want to know if it appeared to be sick or acting in a strange way, or aggressively.
