Traffic Safety Experts Meet

On Tuesday a group of traffic safety experts met in order to discuss ways of how to make Las Vegas safer.

The group of around 30 police, civil engineers and community members made up the Southern Nevada Traffic Safety Committee which meets four times a year to brainstorm ideas on how to improve traffic safety in the area and cut down on accidents.

At this latest meeting, Senator Mark Manedo said that he is planning to introduce a bill which will impose greater penalties of two to 20 years behind bars for those who leave the site of an accident, as they have been drinking and do not want to face a DUI charge. The current penalty is only up to six months.

Community members said that they would like to see more visible signs at bus stops which would tell people to watch for traffic and use crosswalks.

The group is aiming for there to be fewer road deaths by the use of education which will encourage people to use crosswalks and wear seatbelts.

Last year, in the Metro area, traffic fatalities were down 11 percent but there was an increase in fatalities among those not wearing seat belts of 12 percent over 2013. Pedestrian deaths were down by 28 percent.

How to Avoid Driving Distracted

Modern men and woman have lives which are busier than ever. Not only do we have to worry about all of the same kinds of issues which worried our parents, such as paying the bills and raising the kids, but a whole new world opened up when the technology came onto the scene. This technology has certainly helped us, but it has its downsides as well, especially as it relates to distracted driving. Let’s take a look at some ways to keep technology in its place while operating a vehicle.

Plan Your Route In Advance

One of the easiest things you can do to prevent yourself from constantly having to look down at your GPS system while you drive is to plan your route in advance. Plot your route and take a good look at it in order to get a good overall idea of the roads and exits you will take. And if you need to double check the directions, it is better to pull over than to try to drive and read directions at the same time.

Tell Them You’ll Call Them Back

It can be especially tempting to take personal phone calls while driving. But studies show that even talking on a headset increases the chances you will get into an accident. Instead of talking while driving, avoid answering the phone, or tell the caller you will call them back as soon as you get to your destination.

Make a “No Texting” Rule

One of the most dangerous things a driver can do is to text while they drive. There really is no good reason to ever send text messages while operating a vehicle. If you have a passenger in the car with you, you could ask them to send your text for you. But the best bet is, once again, to just send the text after arriving at your final destination.

Distracted driving accidents are increasing as people continue to make technology use part of their driving experience. This is not only dangerous, but it can be deadly. Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle accident victims, and those who care for them, can have a very difficult time getting a fair chance in court. In addition to serious injuries, you face unique challenges which can begin at the scene of the accident and present themselves all the way through jury trial. Motorcycle accident victims still face a stigma of being reckless and responsible for their own injuries, when in reality this is rarely the case. We can beat the prejudice and other challenges to secure just compensation for you.

Track Record of Success in Motorcycle Accident Cases

Our Henderson motorcycle accident attorneys have secured numerous insurance policy limit settlement for motorcyclists in cases where police found fault on the part of the bikers, because we always conduct a thorough investigation and have invariably been able to prove that the other driver negligently failed to see the oncoming motorcycle.
