Henderson Woman Dies After Being Struck By Car

Police are investigating the death of a Henderson woman after she was killed while trying to cross a street in the city.

39 year-old Yvonne Harris was crossing the intersection at East Lake Mead Parkway on Saturday night when she was struck and killed by a car. The driver of the car, 27-year-old Martel Cage, is said to be cooperating with police and has submitted to drug and alcohol tests, as police attempt to determine whether he was under the influence at the time of the accident.

According to witnesses on the scene, Harris was crossing the road against the crosswalk signals, which at the time indicated that it was unsafe to cross. After being struck, Harris was taken to a local hospital, but died of her injuries Saturday night.

This tragic story repeats itself all too often on streets and roads in Nevada and across the country. We would like to encourage all Henderson residents to take the utmost care when crossing the city’s roads. When possible, always cross in the crosswalk and be doubly vigilant for any cars which may be in the vicinity.
