Hit and Run Driver Dies in Separate Accident

One person has died following a crash early on Saturday morning.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the accident happened just after 1 a.m. on Saturday near the intersection of East Richmar Avenue and Green Spruce Street. A 2003 Cadillac Deville that was going east, rear ended a stationary 2012 Nissan Conversion Van which was near the curb on Richmar facing east. The driver of the Cadillac was 41 year old Terry Jones of Las Vegas and he was alone in the vehicle.

Two witnesses who were on the scene performed CPR on him and he was transported to St. Rose Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

When police responded to the accident they were already responding to a separate hit and run accident and they believe Jones was involved in that incident.

This is the eighty sixth traffic-related fatality in Las Vegas Metropolitan Police area.

Young Woman Killed in Speeding Car Crash

On Thursday night a 19 year old woman was killed in a crash in eastern Las Vegas.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, the crash happened shortly after 10.30 p.m. near the intersection of Vegas Valley and Tahoe Drives. A Pontiac Grand Prix was headed west on Vegas Valley Drive when the driver, 28 year old Dario Stevenson of Las Vegas, lost control of the vehicle and the car spun around over the eastbound lanes of the road, hitting a construction trailer, then slamming into a block wall and finally a power pole.

The passenger, Tonnisha Thomas of Las Vegas, was certified dead at the scene with the cause of death stated to be blunt force injury to the head. The driver only suffered minor injuries.

The accident is still under investigation but investigators said that speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.

Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Crash

Metro Police held a pedestrian safety event on Wednesday but just a few hours later, a teen was seriously hurt having been hit by a van.

According to police, the accident happened at around 5 p.m. when 17 year old teen was jaywalking at the intersection of W. Charleston Boulevard and Rainbow Boulevard.

They went on to say that he got off of a bus and tried to run across the street, not in a crosswalk, but he was then hit by a van and was thrown 150 feet from where he was hit. He was then taken to hospital in serious condition.

The van driver stayed at the scene and police say that speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the accident.

Metro Police said that during the demonstration earlier the same day they had highlighted the importance of using crosswalks, wearing bright colored clothing and if wearing dark clothing to ensure they used reflectors. There have been 32 pedestrian deaths in the area so far this year.

Speeding Teenager Now in Critical Condition

A teenager is in critical condition after crashing into a light pole in the east valley early Wednesday morning.

According to Metro Police, the accident happened just after 1 a.m. on Sahara Avenue near South Sloan Lane. The 17 year old boy was driving a 2001 two door Mitsubishi Eclipse eastbound on Sahara at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, began to spin and struck a light pole in the center median. He was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition. The accident is currently under investigation.

Sahara was closed in both directions between Sloan and Nellis Boulevard earlier this morning while the scene was cleared and an investigation took place. It reopened for traffic just after 7 a.m.

Guadalupe Rodriguez aged 17, was killed in an accident in the same area on November 16 when she was a passenger in a car that crashed into a light pole.

Three Dead Early Monday Morning

A crash on the Las Vegas Beltway on Monday morning has left three people dead.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the accident happened at around 5 a.m. in the north valley on the Beltway.

A man was driving a blue Mazda sedan east near Fifth street when he lost control and over corrected. He then crossed the center media and crashed into a Gold Cadillac Escalade which was travelling west. The Cadillac then caught fire.

The driver of the Cadillac driver was a 59 year old man who was not wearing a seat belt. He was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. There was a passenger in his car who was also not wearing a seat belt and they were also killed.

The driver of the Mazda was a 56 year old male and he also was not wearing a seatbelt. He too was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash and investigations are continuing.

Toddler Dies in Fatal Crash

On Wednesday afternoon a toddler was killed in a fatal crash on a ramp to the Summerlin Parkway westbound.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the accident happened just before 4 p.m. when a single vehicle was travelling on the U.S. 95 northbound ramp which connects to the westbound Summerlin Parkway.

NHP went on to say that the driver started up the ramp and entered the paved shoulder. He then steered to the right and the vehicle spun and entered the opposite shoulder and hit a barrier wall. It continued to spin, while travelling backwards and then overturned and slid along the road.

There were three people in the vehicle, a 46 year old driver and two children. The two year old, Alden Shi from Las Vegas, was thrown out of the car and pronounced dead at the scene, and a 12 year old girl together with the male driver was taken to UMC. They were both released after treatment.

NHP has said that following an investigation, charges may be filed.

One Dead after Convenience Store Robbery and Crash

Following a convenience store robbery on Wednesday night, a woman was killed and another one was injured in a car crash.

According to Las Vegas Police, they responded to the accident on Fort Apache Road, just north of West Sahara Avenue, at around 11.30 p.m. They said that the driver of a 2004 Chevy Aveowas speeding and lost control crashing into a street light pole and a tree.

Police went on to say that before the crash, the car was reportedly involved in a convenience store robbery near Charleston Boulevard and Hualapai Way, about three miles southwest of where the crash happened. Four adults had apparently stolen cigarettes from the back of a truck delivering to the store and left at a high rate of speed.

Following the accident, two unidentified men who were in the car fled the scene. An unidentified 18 year old woman was pronounced dead and Anna Karac, aged 20 was taken to University Medical Center where her injuries were said not to be serious.

Man Dies in ATV Accident

A 68-year-old Las Vegas man died on Sunday afternoon near Apex/Nellis Dunes OHV Area situated near Clark R. Peterson and North Las Vegas boulevards.

According to the Clark County Fire Department, they received a call at around 1.40 p.m. on Sunday afternoon following an ATV accident involving two people.

Metro police went on to say that it seems the Yamaha Rhino All Terrain Vehicle, rolled down a foothill in the desert area, and the operator of the ATV was ejected from the vehicle.

Despite attempts to resuscitate him, Charles Haddon Spurgeon Lord II, from Henderson, was pronounced dead at the scene due to multiple blunt force injuries.

His female passenger, aged 67, was semi conscious and was taken by air ambulance to University Medical Center.

There is no word on whether the riders were wearing helmets.

School Bus Involved in Serious Accident with Truck

There was a two vehicle accident on Tuesday involving a school bus.

According to Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, the accident happened just after 7.30 a.m. in the area of Farm Road and Nido Street near North Cimarron road.

The Clark County School District bus, carrying 52 students, was on its way to Arbor View High School when it collided with a pickup truck towing a trailer at the intersection. Four students were taken to hospital, two by ambulance and two were taken by parent transport. The driver of the pickup was also taken to hospital along with the driver of the bus. According to Las Vegas Metro police, both have only minor injuries.

Las Vegas Metro police and CCSD transportation officials were called to the scene to investigate but as yet it is not known what caused the accident.

Woman Dies in Crash

An accident on Saturday night left one woman dead and a man critically injured.

According to North Las Vegas police, the crash happened at 7.30 p.m. at Alexander Road and Commerce Street. Preliminary investigation discovered that a 4 door SUV was traveling southbound on Commerce Street when it struck 4 door sedan traveling eastbound on Alexander Road.

The driver of the sedan was 62 year old Las Vegas resident, Rose Kelly. She was found to be unconscious by police when they arrived and was transported to UMC Trauma where she was pronounced dead. The Clark County coroner’s office said that death was due to blunt force trauma as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

The driver of the SUV was an, as yet unidentified, 28 year old Las Vegas man and he was also taken to UMC Trauma where he is said to be critical but stable.

Police have stated that it appears that alcohol, drugs and speed were factors in the accident.
