On Sunday morning, a jogger who was a long time teacher in Nevada, died after being struck by an SUV in Carlsbad.
According to Carlsbad police, Nicole “Niki” Lynch, who was 51, was out running with her daughter at around 7.15 a.m. when she was hit by a 1998 Ford Expedition that had been headed northbound on Carlsbad Boulevard. The SUV jumped the curb and went onto the sidewalk. Her 21 year old daughter was just behind her and was uninjured.
Lynch was unresponsive and died en route to hospital.
The driver of the SUV was a 52 year old Oceanside man whose name has not been released although police say that it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were involved.
Lynch moved to Nevada around 25 years ago, first to Reno and then to Henderson, where she was a teacher. She moved back to her home town of Carlsbad just over a year ago.
