Dogs are man’s best friend but there are occasions when they will bite, even if they are a household pet. So what should you do if a dog bites you or a child?
In the case of a child you should take them immediately to a doctor, even if there is no actual wound or puncturing of the skin. The doctor will check for underlying tissue damage, tendon damage, nerve damage or bone damage.
If the wound is open and bleeding, you should stop the bleeding by putting pressure on the wound using gauze or a clean pad and then go to the doctor.
The doctor will want to know what type of animal it was, any distinctive markings or colorings and the breed if you know it.
Finally if the dog was wild, or an animal you didn’t know, the doctor will want to know if it appeared to be sick or acting in a strange way, or aggressively.
