Pedestrians ask for changes

Pedestrians are asking for drivers to slow down on Boulder Highway near Lake Mead Parkway and for more marked lit crosswalks in the area.

In this last week, two people have been killed on Boulder Highway including mother of five, Jessica Papin aged 27. According to police she was walking in a marked crosswalk. Also hit and killed was a man who was hit by a garbage truck around two miles further along the road.

Erin Breen, Traffic safety advocate says that it is not just a question of having more crosswalks, but that drivers need to slow down and pay more attention to their surroundings.

She went on to say that the pedestrians also need to pay more attention and not to think that if they are crossing the street at a legal crossing point they do not need to look.

She said that it is never a good idea to jaywalk, especially on a highway which is so busy.
