GM Compensation
Kenneth Feinberg, who is in charge of the administration of the GM compensation fund for victims of a faulty power switch installed in some GM vehicles, has said that all he can do for the families is provide them with compensation, he cannot bring their loved ones back, nor cure paraplegics or brain injuries.
He went on to say that in order to ascertain the amount of compensation in each case, he will follow the same process as judges, lawyers and juries have followed for years. This involves an amount for loss of earnings, in other words what would a person have earned over a lifetime if he or she had lived, or not been injured. In addition there will be an amount for pain and suffering.
He confirmed that he has sole charge of how much will be paid to each victim and GM has given him full authority. They are not allowed to question the amounts nor to put a cap on any of them.
